Interest Group Activities
The IG Biologicals serves as a platform of EAACI to stimulate basic and clinical research in the area of biological agents (biologicals or biologics) used in allergology and clinical immunology, as well as to foster scientific exchange between networks of clinicians and researchers interested in this topic.
The IG of Biologicals is fostering the following activities:
- A task force is currently writing the first position papers on the use of biologicals in allergic disorders and for inflammatory systemic diseases.
- The Task Force on “Establishment of standard operating procedures (SOP) for diagnosing and testing hypersensitivity reactions to biologicals" :
There is an urgent need for harmonization of practice in the field of hypersensitivity reactions to biologicals. The IG is planning to coordinate a multicenter trial based on SOPs.
- To create a comprehensive database with conclusive and outstanding data on desired and adverse effects of biologicals.
- To formulate guidelines for future research and clinical trials on short, medium and long-term effects of biologicals.
