I am a specialist Paediatrician and Paediatric Allergist from South Africa, currently registered for a research fellowship in the division of allergy, at the University of Cape Town.
After completing my medical degree at the Nelson R Mandela, School of Medicine in 2005, I pursued a career in Paediatrics. It was during my community service in a rural village of Kwazulu-Natal, where Nelson Mandela had cast his vote, in South Africa’s first democratic election, that I realized my passion to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged communities and vulnerable children.
I moved to Cape Town in 2015 to do my fellowship in Paediatric Allergy, which was made possible through a sub-specialist award I obtained from the Discovery Foundation.
I am passionate about driving the message of Allergy in a country where the field has until now, been undeveloped. Currently, I work as a consultant in the division of Allergy, and am involved in plans to implement long term policies in education and allergy prevention strategies in under-resourced areas of Africa. I am also working on an MPHIL titled: An Analysis of Aeroallergens in Rural vs. Urban Cohorts, which falls within a larger study, the SAFFA (South African Food Allergy and Food Sensitisation, and was awarded the MSD ALLSA Research Award for this work.
I am currently an active member of the Allergy Society of South Africa, and a member of the AAAI. The Certificate of Paediatric Allergy is a newly registered sub-speciality on the African continent, and I am the second candidate to have obtained it. I also hold a diploma of Allergology through the College of Medicine of South Africa.
