I studied medicine at the Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), where I graduated in 2012 with a thesis on pediatric respiratory allergies. Research has always been a crucial part of my medical career. In 2013 I started a 5-year pediatric residency training program at the University of Verona (Italy), which I expect to complete by July 2018. At the very beginning of my residency, I had the pleasure to join the University of Verona research group on pediatric pulmonology led by Professor Attilio Boner and the Italian Pediatric Allergy Network (I-PAN), an independent research group working on pediatric allergic diseases.
Within the last five years, I gleaned considerable research experience working as medical co-investigators in European and Italian multicenter studies on food and respiratory allergies in children. Moreover, I had the privilege to be actively involved in the Italian Society of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology (SIAIP) as JMs representative and member of the Food Allergy and Allergy Diagnosis working groups. Currently, I am taking a 6-month research scholar on food allergy at Children’s Hospital Colorado (Denver, USA), under the supervision of Professor David Fleischer. My research is focused on possible interventions to improve food allergy-related quality of life and self-efficacy.
My experience as an EAACI JM started in 2013. I frequently attended the EAACI annual congresses since then, presenting posters or working as abstracts reviewer. In 2014 I was fortunate enough to be selected for an EAACI Mentorship Program Award, which provided me with the unique opportunity to visit the Gastro and Food Allergy Research Group (Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Melbourne, Australia) led by Professor Katie Allen, an international opinion leader in the field of pediatric food allergy. That experience strongly shaped my scientific and clinical career.
I am honored to take over the role of JM representative of the Pediatrics Section. As such, I want to encourage pediatric residents and young pediatricians to take part in the EAACI scientific activities. Furthermore, I want to collaborate with all JMs to facilitate clinical and research active colleagues to build up scientific cooperation and contribute to the continuous growth of the EAACI.
