I studied medicine at “Ioannina School of Medicine” in Ioannina, Greece and graduated in 2005. After training in Internal Medicine, I did my residency in Allergology and Clinical Immunology in a University Allergy Department in Athens with both adult and children Outpatient Clinics. In April 2014 I completed my residency years and became a Board Certified Allergist in Greece. For the following year until February 2015, I was solely engaged in Pediatric Allergology as a Clinical Research Fellow in the University Pediatric Allergy Department of the 2nd Pediatric Clinic (University of Athens) directed by Prof. Nikos Papadopoulos. All along my residency and clinical research fellowship my main area of scientific interest has been respiratory allergy. On this basis, i started two years ago my PhD studies on “Phenotypes of Rhinitis” under the supervision of Prof. Papadopoulos. I have recently moved in Berlin, Germany, working with great pleasure as a clinical research fellow in Charité University Hospital where I am part of the Working Group on “Molecular Allergology and Immunomodulation” coordinated by Paolo Matricardi. My main area of scientific focus now is the longitudinal development of IgE and IgG antibodies against components and I feel fortunate I received a fellowship award/grant from the Clemens von Pirquet Foundation which supports my scientific quests.
Taking a look back at the years that I have been an EAACI Junior, I have so many good experiences to recall; my participation in EAACI Congresses, Focused Meetings and Allergy Schools supported by travel grants from time to time, the Clinical Fellowship Award I received in 2012, the Mentorship Programme I was part of, and overall the endless opportunities to acquire knowledge, to meet other Juniors and prominent Seniors! EAACI has truly opened my horizons and it is now my greatest honour to coordinate the JM WG from the position of the JM Chair for the next two years!
During this period, the JM WG will ensure an up-to-date thorough communications network (JM pages at eaaci.org, EAACI Newsletter, JM Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn) that will disseminate the latest information on the 1) upcoming EAACI Events (the Annual Congress, Focused Meetings, Allergy Schools), 2) EAACI Clinical & Research Fellowship and the Mentorship Programme, 3) EAACI online Educational Resources, 4) the JM-must read papers on PAI & CTA, 5) EAACI Knowledge Exam and many more. We expect that our efforts will:
· support Juniors’ continuous educational needs
· promote the participation of JMs in the EAACI Knowledge Exam and EAACI Events
· increase the number of the JMs joining the Academy as well as the number of JMs that continue to be EAACI Members
once they turn 36 years old
· enhance the communication platform amongst JMs and also between JMs and Seniors
· further establish fruitful collaborations with the Juniors’ Boards of other related Societies
All of us in the JM WG are very enthusiastic and full of energy to work for the best interest of EAACI Juniors, the bright future of our Academy! Do not hesitate to reach out to us and let us know if you want to be more actively involved in JM activities. Feel free to convey suggestions or questions! We are your representatives within the Academy and we will be happy to assist!
