Report from Allergy School in Sardinia

EAACI & GA2LEN Allergy School on Lifestyle interventions in Allergy & Asthma
9-12 September 2010,
Sardinia, Costa Rei (Cagliari Coast), Italy

The EAACI & GA2LEN Allergy School on Lifestyle interventions in Allergy & Asthma took place in Costa Rei, Italy, 9th to 12th September 2010, with the support of the Italian Association of Allergists and Immunologists in collaboration with the EAACI Asthma Section and the EAACI Allergy, Asthma & Sports Interest Group. The aim of this event was to provide young physicians education and updates on the relationships between allergy, infections, life style, sport and nutrition and to stimulate the social contacts between young physicians from all over Europe interested in allergic diseases in children and adults.
For this Allergy School the Free Beach Club Resort welcomed 14 faculty members and 45 participants from 16 countries. The scientific program included five theoretical sessions, two practical sessions and two poster presentation sessions. Theoretical sessions addressed “Asthma and Sports”; “Environment changes in Allergy & Asthma”; “Obesity and asthma”; “Diet and nutrition in Allergy & Asthma” and “Quality of Life (QoL) in Allergy & Asthma”. Practical sessions addressed “Asthma monitoring” (FeNO, Mannitol; QoL questionnaires etc) and “Nutrition” (body composition, anthropometry, BMI; Food frequency questionnaires, diet composition & nutrients calculation, etc).
Faculty excellence and intimate and collegial atmosphere allowed plenty of space for discussion and permitted participants to profit from this event, acquiring significant theoretical and practical knowledge on the discussed topics.
The social program was also exceptional and included an outstanding beach party and a fabulous boat trip along the Sardinian coast, allowing all participants to enjoy the sun and the sea of Costa Rei, one of the most beautiful regions of the Sardinian east coast, and to taste the delicious Sardinian food.
In summary, the traditional Italian hospitality allied to the scientific quality and the excellent social program determined once more the success of this EAACI & GA2LEN Allergy School.
